History and production
The flavour first approach
The distillery says all decisions put flavour above everything else. It layers flavour with multi-grain mash bills, brewing yeasts and very long open fermentations, with the casks adding the final layers. It notes that it does not make single malt.
Sustainability and cask ownership
Circumstance says it is certified by the Biodynamic Association as an organic producer and by Carbon Neutral Britain as a carbon neutral business. Used grain goes to a local farm as cow feed, and it accepts returned bottles for reuse. Cask shares are offered through the Still In Cask platform. Liam Hirt signs the distillery's public letters, and it has publicly objected to parts of the English Whisky geographical indication.
