Abingdon Distillery: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Abingdon Distillery is an independent craft distillery in the centre of Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. It is best known for gin and rum, and it is also working towards an English single malt.
Where it is
The distillery is in the historic Coxeter House building in Abingdon. Abingdon dates its history to 676 and claims to be the oldest inhabited town in the UK. A bottle shop is open Thursday to Saturday, with distillery tours on Saturday afternoons.
How it began
The founders began experimenting with distilling while working in Hong Kong, where they found the choice of gin limited. They set up in Abingdon in 2018 and trialled over 50 batches before settling the recipe for their London Dry gin.
The stills
All spirits are made in two handmade copper pot stills called Jenny and Angela, built in Portugal. Together they hold 100 litres, about 130 bottles per run.
Whisky
Abingdon runs whisky clubs for people who want to follow the journey to its first English single malt release. Its rum range is sold as Wild Oxen Rum.
