The vision

The distillery says Ad Gefrin is the vision of Alan and Eileen Ferguson, a husband and wife team with deep roots in Northumberland. Their son, Dr Chris Ferguson, has joined them, working on heritage and community engagement.

Heritage and whisky

Ad Gefrin celebrates the Golden Age of Northumbria through stories, Anglo-Saxon artefacts and distilling. The name looks back to the Royal Court of the 7th century. The team says it has re-awakened a Northumbrian tradition of whisky distilling that had slept for over 200 years, and local press described it as Northumberland's first whisky distillery.
