Quick facts

  • Location: Burnobennie Business Park, Banchory, Aberdeenshire

  • Company: Burnobennie Distillery Limited, registered in Scotland (Companies House)

  • Founded: listed as 2020 by Speyside Capital

  • Approach: heritage barley, a strong wash and very slow distillation, per the distillery

How they make whisky

The distillery says it deliberately departs from the industry norm. It names Golden Promise barley, darkly roasted barley, home smoked barley and crystal and chocolate malts as ingredients. It also reports a wash of around 13 percent ABV, against the 7 to 8 percent it gives as typical, and a super slow distillation run at around 20 degrees Celsius to preserve aromatics. These are the distillery's own claims.

Working with others

Alongside its own spirit, Burnobennie offers contract distilling, independent bottling, new make spirit casks with bonded warehousing, and bespoke bottling for other brands. The distillery is not open for tours except by appointment, according to the Scottish Distillery Guide.
