The story

The distillery says George Strachan moved to Mill of Balmaud Farm in 1958 with his brother Nat, and that the knowledge has passed through three generations. For decades the family barley went into some of Scotland's best known spirits before they decided to bring every step home.

Single estate and sustainability

Barley is grown in the fields around the stillhouse and water is drawn from a source yards away. The site is powered by two on site wind turbines, heat and water are recycled, and remaining by products go through an anaerobic digestion system. The distillery also runs a private casks programme.
