Teacher’s Opens an Ardmore Era as Old Potrero Distils Christmas and Wemyss Goes Sherry-First
Whisky Clan global whisky & spirits news | Saturday 7 November 2026 | Compiled by Whisky Clan editorial | Reporting cut-off: approximately 08:45 GMT
Teacher's is giving the peated Ardmore spirit behind its famous blend a new stand-alone identity, while two smaller releases take radically different routes: Old Potrero has distilled a spiced Christmas ale into rare American whiskey, and Wemyss has opened an age-stated series with sherry-matured Glenglassaugh. Also today: a US bourbon brand offering refunds without asking for a bottle purchase, and a useful look at the true scale of an Indian spirits company newly listed on the stock exchange.
The distinction between announcement and availability matters. Teacher's new range was reported on 5 November and is already in Indian specialist shops, with travel retail following from January 2027. Old Potrero's own announcement is dated 6 November and says sales started that day. The Wemyss whisky was available from 5 November. IGL's stock-market debut happened on 4 November and is not a Saturday breaking announcement.

Scotland: two very different paths from cask to bottle
Teacher's reveals its first three Highland single malts from Ardmore
A blended Scotch label synonymous with Teacher's Highland Cream has taken a consequential step into single malt. Suntory Global Spirits has introduced a Teacher's-branded trio of 12-, 15- and 18-year-old Highland malts, all distilled and matured at The Ardmore Distillery, the lightly smoky backbone of the blend. That provenance matters: this is not a new distillery, nor a relabelled independent bottling, but a familiar component malt presented under the blend's own brand.
The 12-year-old has ex-bourbon maturation, is bottled at 40% ABV and carries a global travel-retail reference price of £41. The 15-year-old, also at 40% ABV, uses extended ex-bourbon maturation and is priced at £58. The 18-year-old adds an Oloroso sherry-cask finish, again at 40% ABV, with a £78 travel-retail reference price. These are reference prices for travel retail, not confirmed shelf prices in Indian rupees or guarantees of UK domestic availability.
Announcement/reporting date: Thursday 5 November 2026. Availability: the range was already in selected specialist shops in India on that date; Middle East airport travel retail is due from January 2027, with further markets including Singapore, China, Sri Lanka and Australia planned later. No firm date or stock level was verified for each subsequent territory. Teacher's is clearly treating India and travellers as the entry audience for a brand already strong in both.
The story begins with the existing distillery rather than a new stillhouse: read Whisky Clan's Ardmore history, ownership, production and visiting guide for the blend's long connection with Kennethmont.
Wemyss launches Castle Collection with a sherried Glenglassaugh 10
Independent bottler Wemyss Malts is bringing together age-stated single malts under a recurring Castle Collection. The first entry is a 10-year-old Glenglassaugh, fully matured in ex-sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV. The producer specifies natural colour and non-chill filtration. This is a Wemyss independent bottling of Glenglassaugh spirit, not a new official distillery-core release.
The 700 ml whisky is priced at £54 for the UK, with 250 cases allocated worldwide. Wemyss says the liquid was bought as new make and matured under its own cask-selection programme, an interesting distinction from buying finished whisky for bottling. The distillery's sea-facing location also makes the combination of sherry influence and coastal character worth watching; tasting notes, however, are the producer's descriptions, not an independent Whisky Clan tasting.
Original release details were reported Thursday 5 November; UK availability began that day. Further trade reporting appeared Friday 6 November. No separate confirmed allocation to every international market is available.

American whiskey: a tiny ale-based release and an unusual refund
Old Potrero Christmas Spirit returns with only 492 bottles
San Francisco's Old Potrero has launched the third edition of Christmas Spirit, a whiskey distilled from a spiced Christmas ale brewed in 2015. Hotaling & Co. says the ale was twice distilled in copper pot stills before spending ten years in once-used Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey barrels. That history makes the bottling a different proposition from a standard rye or bourbon made from a conventional grain mash.
The 2026 edition is bottled at 50% ABV, in 700 ml bottles, with 492 available and a suggested retail price of $139.99. The producer describes citrus, maple, cherry, malt and spiced-fruit notes. These are brand tasting notes; Whisky Clan has not sampled the bottling.
Original announcement: Hotaling & Co.'s Friday 6 November release. Sale date: 6 November 2026, beginning in California and Massachusetts and online to qualifying US jurisdictions. The number of bottles is a release total, not a verified real-time stock count. UK shipping or stock was not confirmed.
The release illustrates how boundary-crossing whiskey can draw on brewing heritage: the fermentation began as ale, yet time in used rye barrels gives the finished spirit a link to San Francisco's pot-distilling history.
Green River offers eligible sports fans a $20 refund without a bourbon purchase
Green River's 6 November announcement promotes a refund for qualifying live-event spending, rather than a whiskey release. Between 6 and 20 November, eligible adults in participating US locations may submit qualifying receipts for expenses such as ticketing, food, parking and merchandise, subject to the promotion's rules and remaining funds. The advertised payment is $20 through Venmo and there is no requirement to buy Green River bourbon.
For readers, the important point is the small print: this is a time-limited brand campaign, not a universal entitlement, and participation, deadlines and expense rules determine eligibility. The producer's promotion rules are linked in Sources and image credits. It is worth noting as an experiment in consumer marketing, rather than presenting it as a new bourbon.
India: a large spirits listing that needs careful reading
IGL Spirits' 4 November stock-market debut: what the numbers mean
IGL Spirits began standalone trading on India's BSE and NSE on Wednesday 4 November after a demerger from India Glycols. The announcement is three days old, so the Saturday story is the context highlighted in fresh 6 November analysis, not an attempt to rebadge the listing as breaking news.
The business reported 30 million cases of potable spirits for the financial year ending March 2026. That is NOT 30 million cases of whisky: the company operates across alcoholic-drink categories. It also runs a substantial biofuels operation. Reported FY26 revenue of ₹2,801 crore was split between ₹1,331 crore from potable spirits and ₹1,470 crore from biofuels, so it would be misleading to call the full figure whisky turnover.
This distinction matters in coverage of India's expanding spirits trade. Investment headlines can exaggerate how much of a conglomerate's growth comes from whisky unless categories and accounting periods are separated. Readers should not mistake these historical FY26 results for November 2026 sales.
