From Ann Arbor to Denver

Brothers Scott and Todd Leopold opened a brewpub in a renovated brake factory in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1999, and later added a micro-distillery. Todd Leopold was the brew and still master. He studied at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, interned at four German breweries and went to distilling school in Lexington, Kentucky. Scott Leopold, an environmental engineer, helped design the site to be as close to zero pollution as possible.

Leopold Bros. closed the Ann Arbor site in spring 2008 and moved to Denver, where it stopped brewing and became a micro-distillery. It later opened a new facility with triple the production capacity.

What makes it distinctive

Leopold Bros. has the largest traditional floor malting room of any distillery in the United States and malts Colorado barley on site. It distills more than twenty hand numbered small batch products, sold in over twenty states, Washington D.C. and parts of Europe. It distills each botanical separately before blending and final distillation. The American Distilling Institute named it Distillery of the Year in 2015.

Its whiskey range includes American Small Batch Whiskey and Maryland Style Rye Whiskey, alongside gins, liqueurs and other spirits.
