Boulder Spirits: Vapor Distillery, Colorado Single Malt, Bourbon and Visits

4 min read

Boulder Spirits, also associated with the Vapor Distillery name, brings Scottish pot-still influence to Colorado whiskey production. Its catalogue includes both American single malt and bourbon, which remain different grain categories despite their shared distillery.

The place of production also needs to be distinguished from the brand's retail presence. The Western Avenue distillery and the Pearl Street shop are different locations, so visitors should choose the address for the experience they actually want.

Boulder Spirits (Vapor Distillery): history and development

Boulder Spirits' own story centres on Alastair Brogan's Scottish background and a determination to make whiskey in Colorado using substantial copper pot-still equipment.

The Vapor Distillery name remains part of the site's identity. A renamed or related business is not automatically a second physical distillery, which is why this guide retains the established CMS record rather than creating another entry for the alternative name.

The catalogue has developed in both single malt and bourbon directions. A distillery can make more than one whiskey category, and a shared bottle design is not evidence that the mash or maturation details are interchangeable.

People, ownership and identity

The producer identifies Brogan's role in shaping the distillery and its methods. That is the basis for the guide's people section; it does not imply an unverified current shareholding or executive title.

The story also links the spirit to local water and maturation conditions. These production details are kept separate from marketing descriptions and from any independent sensory review.

How the whiskey is made

The producer describes Scottish-style copper pot distillation, water from Eldorado Springs and the effect of Colorado's dry, high-altitude environment. Its use of charred American oak produces a different context from simply ageing Scottish spirit in another country.

The four-year Bottled-in-Bond malt and bourbon provide a useful comparison between grain categories at the same listed strength. Their shared 50% ABV does not make them the same whiskey.

Finishing introduces further distinctions. The New American Port single malt is described as having three years in new oak followed by nine months in ruby-port wood. That wording is retained rather than converted into an invented decimal label age.

Whiskey range and bottle identities

The following entries distinguish expressions and release families. A missing age or strength is left unresolved rather than copied from another bottle. Current stock and prices are not asserted.

Release milestones and recognition

The appearance of both age-stated Bottled-in-Bond categories and finished malts shows how the range has broadened. A bottle library should preserve that breadth without creating duplicate entries for harmless packaging changes.

No personal tasting result is claimed here. Producer descriptions, competition recognition and Whisky Clan's own future reviews are separate kinds of information and should be labelled accordingly.

Visiting and current practical information

The distillery address is 5311 Western Avenue, Suite 180, Boulder. The producer also lists a retail location at 1428 Pearl Street. Confirm which address applies to a booked tasting, a shop visit or a production enquiry.

The official photograph shows a producer-presented tasting-room bar rather than the stillhouse. A bar photograph should not be used to infer the location or layout of production equipment.

Opening times, guided experiences and access arrangements can change. Use the operator's current details before travelling, especially when organising a group or requesting a view of the working distillery.
