Wood Brothers Distillery: Bampton, Oxfordshire
Wood Brothers Distillery is a single estate craft distillery on a family farm in Bampton, Oxfordshire. The sources we found describe its gin and vodka. We did not confirm a whisky release, so this profile covers what is documented.
Where is Wood Brothers Distillery?
The distillery is at Elmwood Farm, Bampton, Oxfordshire, OX18 2PL, and is based in a 200 year old granary barn in a corner of the family farm, according to the Oxford Mail.
The brothers and the farm
The Oxford Mail reported in November 2022 that Ed and Charlie Wood are sixth generation farmers. The farm grows winter wheat, barley and rye, which lets the distillery claim single estate status, something it describes as rare among UK distilleries. Grain is milled on the farm and distilled through copper piping.
Equipment and range
The report describes a still nicknamed Big Frank, almost 10 metres tall, which makes a clear spirit before botanicals are added in smaller stills.
It said the brothers had been making gin and vodka for eight years at that point, and that the first generation of the family to use the farm as the base of a distillery did so as a farm diversification.
In November 2022 they launched a lower priced house range for hospitality, using different bottles and packaging. Charlie's Sloe Gin uses sloes picked from the farm hedges.
Visiting
The distillery runs a gin school where guests choose from over 100 botanicals and re-distil their own bottle in miniature copper pot stills. It also has a bar and offers dining experiences, and its website is woodbrosdistilling.com. Check it for current tours and booking.
