Mosgaard Whisky: From Funen to Kolding, History and Visitor Guide

Updated: 6 days ago

Mosgaard began on South Funen in 2015, when Jes and Gitte Mosgaard set out to make small-scale Danish whisky. Its identity developed around copper distillation, organic ingredients and expressive cask maturation.

The current location is not the old Funen farm address. Mosgaard’s own history says a new team took over in 2025 and moved the distillery to Kolding. The producer now lists Nordager 15, sharing premises with Trolden. Older Funen photographs and travel information should not be mistaken for today’s visiting arrangements.

History and development

The founders’ original project combined Scottish inspiration with a Danish setting and organic raw materials. Small-scale production and cask experimentation became part of the name’s identity. Mosgaard’s own account highlights work with sherry, port, peat and European oak rather than one fixed maturation recipe.

In 2025 a new group of whisky enthusiasts acquired the business and moved it to Kolding. That change is important for both travel information and provenance: an older cask can have been distilled at the previous site even when its bottle is sold from the new address.

The 7 Sisters programme illustrates the value of keeping release identity precise. The producer filled a set of specially resized Oloroso casks in 2017 and subsequently began releasing age-stated bottlings. A shared series name does not make every edition the same age or strength.

People, ownership and identity

Jes and Gitte belong to the founding history. The current operator’s account describes a new team carrying the business forward, so the founders should not automatically be presented as the present owners.

The shared Kolding building carries Trolden branding in the photograph supplied on Mosgaard’s story page. This is not a photograph of the former Funen site, and the two producer identities should remain separately searchable in the directory.

Production and the whisky connection

A 2022 producer article described long fermentation and double distillation using copper equipment. It is useful historical context, but it does not prove that every operational detail stayed unchanged after the move.

Maturation varies across the range. The standard Oloroso description and its cask-strength counterpart are not interchangeable, while 7 Sisters 8 Years is a distinct single-cask bottling at 58.2%. The producer’s reuse of catalogue images also makes it important to check the actual batch label rather than rely on a URL alone.

Whisky range and release identities

The following three entries are documented separately. The standard Oloroso product page and the pictured older batch require reconciliation before assigning one image or specification to every release.

Key fact

Mosgaard Oloroso Cask — 46.2% listing

Age not established for this record; 46.2% ABV. Quarter-cask maturation followed by larger Oloroso sherry wood, according to producer. URL refers to Batch 19 while available product photograph shows an older batch. Do not treat image, batch and age as settled.

Mosgaard 7 Sisters 8 Years — 58.2%

8 years; 58.2% ABV. One 140-litre Oloroso cask; distilled November 2017. Keep separate from the seven-year and other 7 Sisters releases. Age and strength apply to this eight-year presentation.

Mosgaard Oloroso Cask Strength — 57.9%

Age not established for this record; 57.9% ABV. Oloroso sherry-cask maturation. Do not replace the standard 46.2% expression or assume all cask-strength batches use this ABV.

Milestones and recognition

Mosgaard reports recognition for several expressions, including its sherry-cask whiskies. The 7 Sisters page cites a 2025 category award for the series. That citation should not become a blanket competition result for every later eight-year-old bottling or an independent Whisky Clan score.

Visiting and practical information

The current shop information directs visitors to Nordager 15, 6000 Kolding, shared with Trolden. Shop hours, Friday-bar arrangements and scheduled tastings are different activities; check the latest calendar and contact the operator about production tours.

Do not use the old Oure address for a visit simply because it appears on an older bottle or travel feature. This guide keeps the Funen origin in the history while updating the directory’s current location.

Frequently asked questions

The producer says the business moved to Kolding in 2025. Funen remains its original home, not the current visitor address.

Nordager 15, 6000 Kolding, sharing premises with Trolden. Confirm opening arrangements before visiting.

No. They are individual age-stated editions with their own strengths and cask identities.

Not necessarily. The checked listing and older photographed label do not align cleanly, so exact batch matching remains a research task.
