Where is GlenAllachie Distillery?
Near Aberlour, Speyside, Scotland. This region contains several historic whisky producers with very different styles.
GlenAllachie history and ownership
The GlenAllachie was built in the late 1960s to supply malt whisky for blends. Its architecture and production systems reflected a more industrial period of Speyside whisky-making than the nineteenth-century distilleries nearby.
In October 2017 Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson acquired the site from Pernod Ricard. Walker led a new single malt programme built on existing aged stock, greater attention to cask selection and an extended fermentation philosophy.
The first independent core collection was launched in July 2018. The distillery now offers 8, 12, 15 and 18 Year Old expressions, cask-strength batches, special releases and peated Meikle Tòir whiskies produced on the same site.
How GlenAllachie whisky is made
The GlenAllachie emphasises long fermentations, extensive wood management and rigorous cask selection. Producer information describes broad cask stocks, including ex-bourbon, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry oak, virgin wood and selected wine casks.
The standard GlenAllachie single malt is unpeated, normally non-chill filtered and bottled without added colour. The separate Meikle Tòir range explores heavily peated spirit. Its flavour profile often combines honey and fruit with cocoa, toffee, spice and dense dried fruit.
What makes GlenAllachie distinctive?
Meikle Tòir is the peated whisky brand made at GlenAllachie; it should not be confused with the distillery's generally unpeated core single malts. Cask-strength GlenAllachie batches vary in strength and recipe, so their ABV must be checked bottle by bottle.
