Founding
Local farmer James Nelstrop and his son Andrew founded the distillery to take advantage of the quality of local barley and the Breckland aquifer nearby. It is described as the first registered whisky distilling company in England in more than 100 years. The copper stills were made by Forsyths of Rothes and became operational in November 2006. Customs and excise rules prevented the stills being smaller than 1,800 litres.
People
The first batches were distilled under Iain Henderson, former master distiller at Laphroaig, during a four month stint before his retirement. He trained David Fitt, a former Greene King brewer, to take over. Andrew Nelstrop has run the business since his father died in 2014. The company releases its whiskies as numbered chapters, in peated and unpeated styles.
