Dartmoor Whisky Distillery: Bovey Tracey, Devon
Dartmoor Whisky Distillery is in Bovey Tracey, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It describes itself as crafting the South West's first single malt whisky.
Founding
Founder Greg Millar had the idea after working at Bruichladdich on Islay in 2009. He asked why Devon, with its barley and granite filtered spring water, had no whisky distillery. The company lists 2014 as its founding year, and Greg and Simon Crow are named as founders in 2020 coverage.
Distillery
The distillery uses an ex-Cognac still that was hand beaten in 1966 and sat dormant after being decommissioned in 1994. Its master distiller is Frank McHardy. It opened its first casks in time for Christmas 2020.
