History of Spirit of Hven Backafallsbyn

Anja and Henric Molin developed the idea for a distillery in the late 1990s and began production in 2008. At first the distillery was one of the smallest copper pot operations, deliberately bringing malting, distillation, barrel storage and bottling together within a compact building.

Its naming scheme draws on astronomy and the legacy of astronomer Tycho Brahe, who lived on Hven. The Seven Stars single malts and Tycho's Star are not separate distilleries, but different whiskies from the same producer.

How the whisky is made

Long fermentations and carefully selected yeast strains help create different spirit flavours. The island's relatively mild maritime climate shapes the maturation environment.

Tycho's Star is a peated single malt using several barley malts and bottled at 41.8% ABV. Other products include Hvenus Rye and MerCurious corn whisky, which should not be confused with single malt barley whisky.
