History
Tag Galyean and John Little saw building work on their first distillery begin in August 2009. It was set up in rural Greenbrier County.
Market Watch in 2016 described Old Scout as the best known line, with whiskey sourced from MGP Ingredients in Indiana, alongside the distillery's own spirits.
Ownership
Difford's Guide lists Pernod Ricard Group as owner. This was not confirmed on the official site.
Ownership
The official Smooth Ambler site carries Pernod Ricard USA terms and privacy links in its age gate and sign-off, which points to Pernod Ricard as the current owner. This agrees with the earlier Difford's Guide report. The brand is independent in spirit by its own account: the official story says it set out to start a whiskey company from scratch in the hills of West Virginia.
The official story
Smooth Ambler describes itself as a West Virginia company that wanted to make award winning whiskey and be a source of pride for West Virginians. It says it is not from Kentucky and likes it that way, and that bourbon can be made in West Virginia too.
Core range as listed on the official site
Contradiction Bourbon: a blend of straight bourbon whiskies, described as a mingled whiskey
Contradiction Rye: a blend of straight rye whiskies
Old Scout Straight Bourbon, Old Scout 7 Bourbon and Old Scout Custom Straight Bourbon, listed as procured whiskies
Old Scout Rye in Single Barrel, Port Cask Finish and Custom versions, also listed as procured
Founders' Cask Strength Series Straight Bourbon and Straight Rye, listed as homemade whiskies
The official page sorts the range into mingled, procured and homemade whiskies. Strengths and prices were not shown on the page that was read.
Visiting
The official site has a Distillery section, but its content did not load in this pass, so tour details are not verified.

Gaps: ABVs, mash bills, still details, capacity, founding dates and visitor information are not verified because the official Distillery page did not load. Ownership by Pernod Ricard is inferred from the official site's Pernod Ricard USA legal links and Difford's, not from a company statement. The Old Scout lines are labelled procured by the brand, so do not describe them as distilled on site. Set the slug by hand.
