Why Roseisle was built
In 2007 Diageo announced plans to build a new distillery at Roseisle. It opened in 2010 and, per Wikipedia, was the largest ever built at 3,000 square metres and a cost of 40 million pounds. Roseisle was built to serve only Diageo's blended whisky production needs, even at a time when many blend-only distilleries had begun regular single malt releases.
Awards for the building
The distillery is described as environmentally friendly, with some by-products recycled on site. It won the Scottish Design Award 2010 and the RICS Scotland 2010 awards for Sustainability Project of the Year and overall Project of the Year.
Single malt releases
Roseisle single malts appear only now and then as part of the Diageo Special Releases programme. The first such edition was unveiled in September 2023. In 2024, malt whisky from Roseisle was used in Johnnie Walker Black Ruby.
