Where is Lerwick Distillery?

Lerwick Distillery's visitor venue is on Market Street in Lerwick, Shetland. Check current tasting appointments and production tour arrangements directly with the operator before travelling.

History and current status

A modern Lerwick whisky project developed by Martin Watt and Calum Miller.

Lerwick Distillery has opened a shop and tasting venue in Shetland, with its own copper distilling equipment under development. Its first branded whiskies were selected from casks originally distilled on the Scottish mainland rather than site-distilled in Lerwick.

Distillery, production and whisky provenance

As of the October 2026 check, Lerwick's own visitor website still describes equipment being assembled and local distillation as imminent. Its existing bottles and tastings cannot be assumed to contain whisky made in Lerwick. Specific branded releases include Nørn Atlantic and other sourced malts.

Verified whisky bottles and releases

Whisky Clan lists only real releases we could identify. Some names are distilling projects or brands rather than independent whisky-making sites, and old bottlings can have a different source than the present company.

Lerwick Distillery has identifiable branded whisky releases. The following are documented expressions, even though their source spirit was distilled elsewhere: NØRN Atlantic, an eight-year-old blended Scotch at 43% ABV; NØRN Aurora, an eight-year-old rum-finished blended malt at 47% ABV; NØRN Zetland, a 12-year-old Speyside single malt at 47% ABV; and NØRN Genesis 2026, a 12-year-old Speyside single malt bottled at 47% ABV in an edition of 493 bottles. The distillery's own product pages distinguish source distillation from blending, finishing and bottling in Shetland. Official bottle photos are available via the producer sources listed below; no unverified third-party bottle image has been inserted.

Lerwick NØRN bottle range confirmed in 2026

NØRN Atlantic (8-year-old blended Scotch, 43% ABV), NØRN Aurora (8-year-old rum-finished blended malt, 47% ABV), NØRN Zetland (12-year-old sourced Speyside single malt, 47% ABV) and NØRN Genesis 2026 (12-year-old sourced Speyside single malt, 47% ABV) are identifiable whisky bottles. NØRN Genesis 2026 was limited to 493 bottles. These are releases associated with Lerwick Distillery, not proof that the spirit was originally distilled on Shetland.

Awards and milestones

Only individual named expressions should carry competition claims. Historical openings, first whisky releases and changes in operations described here are separate milestones, not an award for the whole range.
