The old school building
The distillery's own news page, quoting a July 2023 feature in the local magazine Hidabito, says the distillery was created by converting the former Takane Elementary School. The company representative named there is Hiroki Arisu, president of Funasaka Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. He was born in Hida Takayama and is the heir of the Arisu group.
The page says the article asks why a distillery, where whisky takes years to make, was started in the old school. A Japanese language Instagram post from the distillery's brand describes it as Gifu's first whisky specialist distillery, but we have not seen that on the official site, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Visiting
The official site has sections for the distillery, products, tours and news, in Japanese and English. The distillery has run school building tours, including tours departing from Takayama Station.
