History and production

Belfast's first working whiskey distillery in 88 years

The Spirits Business reported in August 2023 that Titanic Distillers had brought whiskey production back to Belfast for the first time in 88 years. The distillery stands on the site of the historic Thompson Dock and Pumphouse, where the Titanic was fitted out, and had been welcoming visitors since April 2023.

  • Investment: nearly 8 million pounds to convert the Pumphouse, after more than five years on the project

  • Stills: single malt production on three Forsyth's stills

  • People: head distiller Damien Rafferty and directors Peter Lavery and Stephen Symington

  • Heritage: the Thompson Dry Dock opened in 1911, and original equipment in the Pumphouse is kept and shown on tours

Titanic Distillers whisky bottles and expressions

The verified Titanic Distillers catalogue includes a flagship blended whiskey, a sherry edition, aged pot still and single malts, and collector releases. Older releases may include mature sourced stocks: the Belfast Pumphouse began production in 2023, so an 8-year-age statement does not mean the entire whiskey was distilled on site.
