History and production
A Connemara poitin family and Galway's first legal distillery
Micil Distillery at 226 Upper Salthill, Galway, is named after the founders' ancestor Micil Mac Chearra, who began distilling poitin on a Connemara hillside in 1848. Whiskeys.ie says the family founded the distillery in 2016, and a podcast describes it as Galway's first legal distillery, built on a six generation poitin tradition.
